A grade race report:
Approximately 10 riders lined up for A grade on the weekend. The roll out from Meredith was sedate until Darren McCullen decided to spice things up with a big surge. Several other riders took offense and counter attacked with eagerness including reigning Club Champion and no.1 race number wearer Daniel Wilson. Things came back together for the start of three laps round the Elaine Rd circuit.
Darren Grey, feeling particularly bouncy in the mild May weather, attacked numerous times in an attempt to get away, but the bunch was content to leave him hanging before slowly realling him back in. Upon the start of the 2nd lap, Rudolf Schmidt attacked, but was only able to hold the bunch off by himself for half a lap. A number of attacks ensured in the final lap by riders including Rudolf, Steve Young, Daniel Wilson and even a fiesty counter-attack by John Burtt, recently re-prompted to A grade. Darren Gray tried his hand one last time before the final roll back into Meredith, but by then had spent all his bickies on the climb up to Elaine Rd. A furious sprint to the line ensured with a triumphant Steve Young holding off
Rudolf Schmidt and Darren McCullen (dead heated for 2nd) to take a well earnt A grade victory by the narrowest of margins in a exciting photo finish.
B Grade race report.
11 riders started B grade and as was the theme of A grade the initial roll out to the first turn was fairly sedate. Shaun Gilbert in his first race back after a few health problem thought he would try his legs out of the bottom turn up the hill. This attack was very short lived and he decided to take his place back at the back of the bunch for the rest of the race. Needless to say his ambition far outweighed his ability. For the rest of the race we saw at least 8- 12 different attacks try to go up the road but with perfect conditions staying away was the hardest part of the day. Daryl Sutter and Carnegie member Peter Quill took on a majority of the work load towards the end of the race with both trying a number of times to break the race apart.
The run back into town turn into a game with not to many riders wanting to hit the front apart from Jarod Anskaitis and Anthony Reynetjes. It ended in a sprint finish with Daryl Sutter taking line honors from Brad Young and Matthew McDonough.
