Geelong Cycling Club’s Leigh Howard has claimed the Senior World Omnium Championship Title.
The Omnium event is known as the pentathlon of track cycling and is made up of the following disciplines:
Leigh was top of the leader board after the second round with a strong performance in the scratch race; however he slipped back down the leader board to fourth after the pursuit.
A close battle then continued between Leigh, Canada’s Zachary Bell and a late charging Tim Veldt from the Netherlands saw the result come down to the last event of the night the 1km TT.
Veldt took the win, however Leigh took second and that was enough to win the title.
