If you can't compete please put your hand up to help. Asking friends, family anyone you can call on to lend a hand will go along way to making this a successful event.

Staughton Vale Handicap Cancellation

Written by Daniel Wilson

The Geelong Cycling Club Road Committee regrets to inform the membership that this weekends handicap race at Staughton Vale has been canceled as we weren't able to secure a racing permit in time. The permit application has been ongoing for 4 months and we were only just informed Tuesday afternoon that this was the case. Unfortunately the failure to secure a permit in time is due to factors beyond our control. We hope that you understand the committees frustration at this turn of events and will continue to support our endevours to put on quality and enjoyable racing on a number of different courses.

As it is very short notice we aren't able to reschedule another event in time. We apologies for this inconvenience and regret the hole it has left in the winter calendar.

Well Done Jamie-Leigh - 2012 Oceania Championships

Written by Webmaster

Congratulations to Jamie-Leigh Edwards who recently competed in the 2012 Oceania Championships in Queenstown New Zealand.

Jamie was one of 24 girls from the Oceania Region who travelled to beautiful Queenstown to ride a very challenging 75km course. The course was 3 laps of a 25km loop which included some tricky descents and equally challenging climbs.

The first lap saw some mechanicals and the reality of “that hill” which resulted in the exit of 5 of the competitors. Lap 2 produced a breakaway of 8 riders which the bunch set about to chase down in lap 3.

Jamie did a fantastic job of sticking with the chasing bunch and crossed the finish line in good position. Well done!

Personal Transponder – Why buy one?

Written by Simon Masters

Personal Transponder – Why buy one?

The  Geelong Cycling Club has communicated to the membership our implementation plan for transponder use. We have however neglected to explain the benefits of owning a personal transponder to members. Hopefully the following information will allow members to make an informed decision as too whether you purchase a transponder. The club encourages members to purchase their own, not only for the individual benefits but to help reduce the burden of race day entries for volunteers.

Upon purchasing a personal transponder you are able to go online to the MyLaps web site, create a personal profile  and register your transponder. From that moment on all your race results, lap times will be stored in the MyLaps data base that you can access at any time. When the club loads races results your individual race information is updated instantly.

The race information and results can then be analyzed further by looking at your individual lap times. You are also able to also compare your lap times with fellow competitors.

In time Cycling Victoria Open events are to be timed using the MyLaps timing system. There are a number of Championship & State title events that have been embarked for later in the season. This will give you a history of races beyond Geelong Cycling Club ran events.

Should you wish to purchase a personal transponder this can be done on race day with cash. Or you can transfer the money directly into the Club’s back account using the details below.
