Track cycling in Geelong has a long and illustrious history having been an important component for all of this club’s 100 year history. Tales of crowds 20,000 strong crowded around the Geelong West Velodrome on balmy Friday evenings in the sports hey day sprang to mind at this now magnificent facility if with a somewhat reduced spectator and competitor numbers.

A hardy bunch led by Oliver King and the ever present duo of Nev and Pam Williams are keeping the tradition alive at our recently refurbished complex and what a spectacular sight it now makes, silky smooth hotmix, crisp line markings and verdant green carpet of drought resistant fine couch grass. City of Greater Geelong endeavors here are to be applauded.

“Track” is the time honored breeding ground for competitive cycling where all skills, protocols, rules, history indeed lore is passed down the generations preparing riders for all disciplines of cycle racing, track, criterium and road. Here young riders are nurtured into the sport in a safe and family friendly environment and our club must do all it can to preserve this tradition.
