Rider Sportswear Victorian Schools Cycling Championships (VSCC09)
Presented by CycleSport Victoria, the championships will feature nine qualifying zone finals to be held across Victorian throughout August and September, with it getting underway with the Gippsland Zone Final in Bairnsdale on Tuesday August 11.
Gippsland will be followed by three zone finals in Melbourne (South Metro, East Metro and North West Metro), plus five regional finals (Wimmera, Border, Midlands, South West and Western Region). A MTB State Final will also be held separately. Event Schedule.
Proudly supported by Rider Sportswear, the championships will culminate in the Victorian State Final which will be held in conjunction with Stage 6 of the 2009 Herald Sun Tour in Melbourne on October 17.
Just by entering into their zone final, students will be in the running to win cycling jerseys and medals, in addition to putting their school in the running for the overall aggregate trophy for Best School.
In 2008, over 1500 students from over 150 schools from all across Victoria competed in the championships.
The event has also been the breeding ground of some of Victoria and Australia's biggest names in cycling. Just a few that have competed at previous VSCC include 2009 World Omnium Champion Leigh Howard, 2008 Beijing Olympian Mark French, 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sean Finning, AIS cyclist Tess Downing and 2009 Victorian track cyclist of the year Shannon McCurley.
