Today’s race saw a total of 51 riders start over 3 grades. We had 13 people take out 3 race licences which would have to be some sort of club record. I hope the new guys enjoyed themselves and we look forward to seeing them back again in the coming weeks.
Just a reminder that if you take out a 3 race licence this $33 dollars can be deducted from a full race licence when and if you decide to take one out. Make sue you let us know of your intentions and we will help you out with this process.
Thanks to all the helpers on the day and all the Marshal’s. We really appreciate all your help. Thanks also to Belinda Wain, I am sure all you will agree that the photo’s she has made available to us are awesome and very much appreciated.
C Grade
Saw our biggest field of the day with 26 riders starting in perfect conditions. With a vast amount of experience within the bunch, the race split very early. After about 10 minutes we saw 3 groups. The lead group contained 15 riders and a smaller groups of five working together to limit their losses. A number of riders forced the pace with Scott McPherson, Tony Ross working hard to break the bunch. After the 40 minutes of racing we still had Jon Weijers, Ben Glynn, Liam McGarry, Scott McPherson, Darcy Hughes, Tony Ross in the lead group. At the line it was :
B Grade
We had 17 starter in B grade which would guarantee some exciting racing. Early attacks by Paul Jane where brought back fairly quickly and the race stayed together for the duration on the 45 minutes. The race was destine to end in and bunch kick, with as many as 10 riders still on the lead lap. At the line it was Bendigo CC rider Big Tm Bastian taking the line honours in a close sprint from youngster Brad Young and perennial place getting Matt Oliver in 3rd.
A Grade
This was our smallest field for the day with only 9 riders starting. This may have been smaller due to the fast pace of last weeks A grade race. From the start Jarrod Evans showed his cards and broke away after about 5 minutes of racing. Jarrod, known for his time trialling prowess did exactly that. Jarrod held off the field for the entire race and towards the end extended his lead significantly to win by in excess of 1 minute. Rudy Schmidt’s timely attack with 3 laps to go proved perfect timing as he managed to gap the remaining riders and take 2nd place easily. The podium was filled by Greg Matheson after some cat and mouse tactics in the final laps.
As mentioned again today, we are desperate for race Marshal’s and general help to keep these crits running smoothly and hopefully improve in areas that need some work. The decision was made simply because with in excess of 500 – 600 hundred students moving onto Res over the weekend traffic will be far too hard to manage.
