Track Racing

During the eleventh round of track racing, riders literally lit it up the circuit on Wednesday night. By the end of the night the lights were switched on for the first time this season, and unlike last year there was no repeat of the smoking light tower!

How it Happened...

Race 1 - Scratch Races:

Race one and the juniors had a tight finish with Jamie Edwards starting her good night of 3 from 4 holding off Jack Quibell to win the sprint. B grade was interesting with Oliver "Sandbags" King going off the front from the gun and holding his position for around seven of the 10 laps and still managing to hold on for third. Chris Gillespie who waited in the wings was too strong for Oliver, taking the win with Steve Clausen taking second. At least you remembered your jersey this week Ollie. It has only taken me 11 write ups to realise Steve's last name is spelt with a C and not G, I finally have it right there Steve.

A grade saw Marcus take the win after a series of early attacks splitting the bunch before taking the sprint over the aeropackage Greg Hosking in his new skin suit and Steve Del Gallo.

Race 2:

Race two had the Juniors contesting a handicap. William Key continued his liking for this format taking another win, while Jamie took second place with Ashley Gillespie coming across the line for third.

With Pam and Neville away for the night, the seniors rejoiced in dropping the handicap for the night and ran Italian Pursuits instead.
 
In B grade the team of Oliver King, Ryan Lloyd, Chris Gillespie, Vincent Glynn and Paul Hughes overcame Stefan Bos, Braden McKay, Craig Strong, Martin Watters and Steve Clausen after what seemed a strong lead by the second team was lost when down to three after a gap opened between the riders dooming their efforts while team one was able to maintain their cohesion and finish off strong.

A grade was a super race with the teams of Craig Strong, Steve Del Gallo, Greg Hosking and Brad Young just edging out by the barest of margins over the team of Damien Harris, Jamie Werner, Marcus Wettenhall and Steve Young. The first team managed to gain the early advantage with the first two riders then the second team edged into the lead and it was virtually neck and neck coming down to the last two riders but Brad Young brought it home in style over Steve by a whisker.

Race 3:

Race three was next and the juniors held a point score with Jamie Edwards making it a clean sweep of the points on offer each time edging out Jack Quibell and William Key who took the minor placings.
 
The seniors had an all in elimination that saw all 17 riders on track together in a great spectacle. With so many riders, positioning was the key, and I soon found out that the hard way in that having to ride on the grass of the football field was not the best position to be in. Steve Del Gallo proved to be the strongest over Steve Young and Marcus Wettenhall, Stefan Bos was the best of the B Graders followed by Braden McKay and Steve Clausen.

Race 4:

Finally Race 4 came around and the lights came on, Jamie Edwards finished off her night with a comfortable win again over Jack, and Ashley took third.

Seniors raced graded points races and in the B's Braden McKay collected the most over Steve Clausen and Paul Hughes. Steve Young took victory in A grade over Greg Hosking and Brad Young.

At this stage we still have five more weeks of the season left winding up on the 31st of March, so if you want to come down and have a race or bring down some food and beverages for a good nights entertainment you are most welcome. Racing is conducted on Wednesday nights at 6:30 and also training is still on Monday nights with juniors at 5pm and Seniors at 6pm.
