It was a hot night and another great field for Wednesday night track racing with 19 riders coming out to race.
Race one saw the scratch races for all the junior and senior fields:
In the juniors Stefan Bos showed he is coming on strong, able to ride all the juniors off his wheel for a comfortable win, while Jack Quibell put in a good ride to go clear in second and Tane Rabbas taking third. B grade seniors was competitive from the outset, Braden McKay made an attack two laps out but that was chased down by Craig Strong and Paul Hughes, with Craig kicking again on the final 200 to go clear for the win over Braden and Martin Watters taking third place. A Grade was vicious with Marcus attacking early getting clear only to be chased down by a very strong Steve Del Gallo, then go clear again, the catch once again made and Marcus kicking again to finally go clear for the win, Steve Young got his big motor running on the last lap to power home second and Jamie Werner coming over the line third, the field thinking "golly gosh" this is just the warmup.
Race two were the Handicaps, Will Key showed he needs to come in from his mark easily taking the junior race from a tight finish for the minor places with Ashley getting second and Stefan taking third.
The seniors also had some questionable marks given!!! Brad Young was able to spin his legs off to take the win over Steve Del Gallo and Mark Isaccs who was starting to remember how to ride his track bike.
Race Three for the Juniors was a Point Score, with Stefan Bos too strong and thinking it was time to have a go in the senior ranks, Jack Quibell second and Jamie Edwards third.
The seniors had a combined elimination with separate results for the grades, the big field proving difficult to maneuver for the best position to come around for each sprint, so experience and a bit of nous was needed, one by one the field was whittled down until only Geoff Robertson and Steve Del Gallo were left, with the young legs of Steve able to edge out Geoff for the win, Braden McKay was the best result of the B Graders.
Race 4 and the juniors were in for another scratch race of secret distance Stefan Bos again showing he was too strong over Jack Quibell and Ashley Gillespie.
B Grade also had a secret distance, after 8 Laps Craig Strong showing his dislike for this format decided he was bored and went for the usual kamikaze attack, then as he was reeled in Neville decided to blow the whistle for the last lap Braden taking the sprint over Martin Watters with Craig kicking again for third.
A grade had a 15 Lap scratch race, after around the 8 Lap mark Brad Young when all out on the attack followed by Steve Del Gallo, gaining a small gap on the rest of the field. Steve Young went to the front of the bunch and it appeared that the gap between the two escapees being his son Brad and Steve D was able to suddenly grow quickly. Having none of this Marcus then launched from the group to start getting across, as you could see the pain in Brads face as he was starting to tire. The rest of the group was the able to reform, and Mark Isaccs showed everyone a clean wheel coming clear in the sprint over Marcus and Steve Del Gallo who is getting stronger by the day.
